Dr. Kala Acharya

Dr. Kala Acharya has been the former Director of K.J. Somaiya Bharatiya Sanskriti Peetham since its inception in 1989. She is a versatile Sanskrit scholar with outstanding merit. She has received four Gold medals including the Chancellor’s medal for M.A. in Sanskrit. She has written a number of books independently and jointly related with Sanskrit and Interfaith Dialogue.

  • Kala Acharya has received the Best University Teachers Award for the year 2010-11 from Government of Maharashtra.
  • She has been honoured by the Government of Maharashtra as ‘Sanskrit Pandita’ (outstanding Sanskrit scholar) in 1994.
  • She has presented more than 50 research papers in National and International seminars in India and abroad many of which are published.
  • She has edited fourteen books on topics such as Religion, Philosophy, Culture, Comparative Religion and Sanskrit Language.
  • She has visited US, UK, Switzerland, Australia, Japan, Thailand, Cambodia, Taiwan, Kazakhstan, Iran, Vatican, Spain, Korea  and Italy to  spread the message of Indian Culture.
  • Kala Acharya was appointed as the ‘Ambassador of Parliament of World Religions 2009’ and has also been appointed as the ‘Ambassador of Parliament of World Religions’ for the next Parliament.
